Substation Signage & Labelling

Substation Signage & Labelling

One of our favourite things at Total Industrial Engraving is to help you with your substation signage & labelling. We've been working with companies for over 10 years on these projects now and we have learnt so much in that time. One of the biggest and most recent learns was actually that everyone hates the labelling stage! That one was almost painful to take but we totally get it. You are almost at touching distance of the end of your project and your customer might not have approved the wording or the size. Or the bloody text size. You are going back and forth trying to get sign off so you can get the labels fitted and go home. Especially when the substations are in a far flung place on the country and seem to have their own microclimate to make working more challenging. Yes Highlands, I'm thinking of you! Not to mention that the carriage always takes twice as long to get anything to site when you are up there. As I say, we get it, we are here to help and we won't let you down!

Available products for substation signage & labelling

It says in the name we are industrial engravers so it shouldn't come as a surprise that engraved labels. Traffolyte labels to you perhaps, are our bread and butter. You may hate them but we love them. We also supply engraved stainless steel, both laser and mechanical engraving. We have a range of supply partners we've been working with for many years which also enables us to supply you chemical etching if required. Often used for schematic diagrams if they have a lot of information on because the symbols and lettering becomes below 2mm, which is a problem for mechanical engraving. Also printed labels on a roll and large format digital print or vinyl labels too. We like to think of ourselves as a 'one stop shop' for all of your bespoke substation signage requirements. And we know our customers do too. We get a lot of emails that start with the words - can you do x or y? And our priority is to help our customers in any way we can.

Here are just some of the ways we help our clients with substation signage.

1. Itemised quotes.

Yes, you read that right. We itemise every single label for you so you can see a breakdown of the cost per label. For every single size. You can easily see exactly how much each label is costing in your project and the exactly amount of each size label for easier TAL. We tend to be able to quote within 24 hours too. Although we don't mind at all if you want to give us a few days. Especially for the quotes that would take a full ream of paper if we weren't pretty much paperless...They are not a 5 minute job as I'm sure you know.

2. We supply fixings and brackets for substation signage if required.

We can supply your stainless steel fixings and brackets for the project. This is particularly beneficial because if, God forbid, the holes don't line up, we are responsible for both so you don't have to play tennis between the label and bracket manufacturer to see who dropped the ball and who's ultimately going to pay for the error. Obviously these things don't happen to you very often but even when things actually work out. It is still one thing less to worry about. You'll get everything you need to fix your substation signage on site in one delivery....or more if you want.

3. Part delivery is fine with us.

The order was placed so late by the time you placed it that you actually need your signage yesterday. Obviously, whilst we love to help and will do what we can, we aren't magic. But to help with the fact we are only muggles (only just anyway) we can send your delivery in as many shipments as you need so you don't have people twiddling their thumbs on site at great expense. Lone working rule haven't helped you I know!Usually we don't even charge for extra deliveries. Because carriage is free above £500 + vat so the value of the projects allow for additional deliveries without you needing to uplift your PO for additional couriers. We know that can be a faff and you have enough to be doing without that!

4. Superior material.

We use Rowmark which is UV stable and suitable for exterior use. Your client has probably put Traffolyte on the spec but that is because the word has become used to mean 'engraved labels'. Traff isn't actually an exterior material though so if they question the use of a different material please feel free to share this with them. Traffolyte material - The truth.Rowmark is made with a decent percentage (15%) recycled material at last check. This was the best I could find for engraving laminate. Also our waste provider confirmed they are happy to recycle it for us. Not something you should need to worry about as your labels will last for years on site. But you know on that rare event when your client says you have to switch all the signs out because they want a tiny change to the wording. That is when we are happy to have them all back and recycle them for you if you can't do it from site. Now, we have been asked on specs to say yes to the labels lasting for 40 years. We can't say that. Our material supplier will only say 2 years but and its a very big BUT...This is because on every single site some of your labels will be subjected to different conditions. Also some people have a different level of acceptable for levels on wear and fade too. We have been using this exact material on substation signage for over 10 years with NO complaints. If your client wants a letter confirming a list of substations where this material is I'm happy to provide it. Also happy to talk to you or your client and bore you senseless about the ins and outs of the materials too. Just say the word.

5. Stainless steel options.

Really want to have the best substation signage available...Laser engraved stainless steel is where its at. We've provided this for various sites. Particularly offshore windfarm sites. People tend to use the plastic laminate for the internal and/or onshore elements. And then have laser engraved stainless for the exterior offshore site of things. Make sure you upgrade your fixings to be 316 grade stainless for maximum longevity too.We use 316 grade brushed stainless as standard for the engraved labels so you can rest assured they will outlive us all even in the harshest environments...yes Scotland I'm talking about you. Now, before you think I'm hating on Scotland, I'm not! We are actually going to move up their when the kids fly the nest, I'm just a realist.

6. Substation Signage Snagging.

I know...the dreaded S word! We are happy to help make this as painless as possible. We save EVERYTHING! That means every label is saved so if you need a small tweak to wording we can move fast. We also stock all the standard substation signage colours in 1.6mm and 3mm thick. (Some in 0.6mm thick for the small fiddly labels too).Depending on the process your end, we are happy to make and send the labels. And sort the paperwork afterwards if you need us to. You had an itemised quote at the start so you will know we aren't about to rob you blind for a few labels. We just copy from the existing quote so we all know the label price remains the same throughout the project.

7. We really care!

I'd like to think you have noticed that already but we really do care. To you substation signage is possibly just a thorn in your side that you have to deal with. We engrave substation signage every single week. With deliveries going all over the country, and sometimes further. Although I don't like to talk about that, I still have flashbacks to one Xmas break (well it was supposed to be), dealing with Dubai freeports because tax needed paying and reclaimed to move between the freeports. With everyone in UK off for hols and getting no answers I took a flyer and sorted it out. This is the level of support we give our substation clients. Most of your team have my personal mobile number so you get even faster responses. Because we know how much you can have riding on just a few labels. We know that your customer won't give site signoff until you have sorted it and £50 worth of labels is holding up a very large invoice.

8. ISO9001 certified.

I nearly forgot to tell you this because it is so ingrained in how we operate we don't think of it most of the time. When we went for ISO registration I remember the auditor saying you are probably doing most of the things you need to do to get it already but you might not have it all documented so its just a case of getting that done. He was right! We were already so focused on quality prior to this and that's why I forget to mention it. But I know it can be a good box to tick your end...and on the supplier form. It sometimes saves filling in a few more boxes anyway. We are focused on providing our customers a quality product at the best possible price. Whilst maintaining one of the fastest lead-times in the industry. We've always ran Total Industrial Engraving anticipating and wanting repeat customers. We want to have our clients on credit accounts for ease for all parties. We want you to be able to order using whatever format works for you for speed and ease for you. That wouldn't be possible if we didn't strive to be the best in the industry. We call ourselves 'The Industry Experts' as a play on TIE. Because Total Industrial Engraving is a bit wordy to use all the time. But it isn't just us not wanting to use the tongue twister. It is in our whole ethos which we hope you will get the chance to find out too.
